About this technical talk template

The hardest part of a technical presentation is pitching it at the right level. This tech talk presentation template covers where you’re starting, going deeper, and taking it back to work. The discussion slide asks where the approach would help, or hurt, in people’s own work, which invites honest tradeoffs instead of polite nods.

The first poll asks how familiar people are with the topic, from new to it to I could give this talk. The second lets them choose what you go deeper on: concepts, a live demo, pitfalls or Q&A. The last asks when they’ll try it at work. It suits engineers giving a developer talk, conference talk or internal lunch and learn.

When to use it

  • Internal lunch and learns or engineering guild talks
  • Conference talks to an audience with mixed experience
  • Meetup talks where you want to adapt as you go

How to use it

  1. Use this template. All 10 slides land in your Slides, free. Edit the text on any slide, change any question, or add your own slides from a PDF.
  2. Run it. On a Zoom, Google Meet or Teams call, people answer in the meeting chat. In a room, they scan a QR code and answer on their phones. No app for anyone.
  3. See the room. Results land live, only you see who’s gone quiet, and a summary is ready when it ends.

FAQ

Technical talk questions.

Structure a tech talk around one main idea: the problem, how the approach works, a demo or example, and the tradeoffs. Ending with how to try it gives people a reason to act.
