6 Slido alternatives for workshops, trainings and live sessions

Six Slido alternatives for workshops, trainings and live sessions, online or in the room: what each does best, what to watch for, and free plans.

Slido is a solid tool, and for big events built around a moderated Q&A board it's hard to beat. People look for alternatives for other reasons: they run smaller workshops and trainings rather than town halls, they want a different mix of activities, they'd rather people answer without opening a separate page, or they want more than poll results when the session ends.

This guide covers six options and who each one suits. We make Claryoo, so it's on the list, and we've tried to be fair about where others fit better.

Quick picks

  • Best for workshops and trainings on a call or in a room: Claryoo
  • Best for presentation-led sessions with word clouds: Mentimeter
  • Best for polls inside PowerPoint, Google Slides or Keynote: Poll Everywhere
  • Best for lots of activity types and quiz games: AhaSlides
  • Best for anonymous Q&A in training and classes: Vevox
  • Best for teaching and training with many question types: Wooclap

The alternatives

Claryoo

Claryoo is an AI co-host for live sessions. On Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, it joins the call as a participant and runs polls, quizzes and volunteer picks that people answer by typing in the meeting chat, so nobody leaves the call to find a code. In a room, people scan a QR code and answer on their phones, or tap Got it, Lost me, Too fast or Example please. Questions land on one board, longest wait first. On your side only, you see who's with you, who has gone quiet and which slide lost the room. When the session ends, you get a summary of what was decided, the follow-ups owed by name, and the poll and quiz results. See the full Claryoo vs Slido comparison.

Best for: facilitators running client workshops, trainers running live sessions, nonprofit member calls and speakers who want to know how the room is doing, online or in person.

Watch out for: there are no word clouds, and Q&A works differently. Questions from chat and voice go on one board rather than a public board where the audience upvotes. For a conference or all-hands with hundreds of people voting on questions, Slido is the better fit.

Pricing: Free plan with 2 session hours a month. Starter $19 a month for 8 hours, Pro $39 a month for 25 hours. Billed by hours, not seats, and participants never pay. Every account starts with a 14-day Pro trial, no card. See pricing or start free.

Mentimeter

Mentimeter is an interactive presentation tool. You build a deck with polls, quizzes, word clouds and Q&A, and the audience joins at menti.com with a code. Results build live on the shared screen, which makes it a natural fit when the slides are the session.

Best for: lectures, keynotes and conference talks where you want results, like a growing word cloud, on the big screen.

Watch out for: people answer on a separate page, so on a video call they switch tabs or pick up a phone. It reports results rather than telling you who has gone quiet.

Pricing: Free plan. Basic is $11.99 and Pro is $24.99 per presenter a month, billed yearly. See mentimeter.com/plans.

Poll Everywhere

Poll Everywhere is an audience response tool. People respond at the presenter's link, such as PollEv.com/yourname, from their own device. Activities include word clouds, Q&A, competitions and clickable images, and you can embed live polls in PowerPoint, Google Slides and Canva.

Best for: presenters whose polls live inside their slides, and teachers or event presenters who want a memorable response link.

Watch out for: the free plan has a small audience size, so larger groups will need a paid plan.

Pricing: Free Intro plan with a 40-person maximum audience size. Paid plans: polleverywhere.com/plans.

AhaSlides

AhaSlides is an interactive presentation platform with a wide range of activities: polls, quizzes with a leaderboard, word clouds, Q&A, a spinner wheel, ranking and an idea board. People join with a QR code or link on their own device. It works with PowerPoint, Google Slides, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.

Best for: training games, team events and classrooms where the activity itself is part of the fun.

Watch out for: like most slide tools, the session is built around a deck people follow on their own device.

Pricing: Free plan for up to 50 participants. Paid plans: ahaslides.com/pricing.

Vevox

Vevox is a polling, quizzing and Q&A platform aimed at classes, training and meetings. People open vevox.app in a browser and enter a session ID, or use a direct link or QR code, with no account. Sessions are anonymous by default, and it offers polls, quizzes with leaderboards, word clouds, Q&A and surveys. It lists integrations with Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint, Google Slides, Zoom and learning platforms such as Moodle and Canvas.

Best for: trainers and educators who want anonymous Q&A and feedback, especially in organizations that already use an LMS.

Watch out for: the free plan is capped at 100 participants per session, so bigger events need a paid plan.

Pricing: Free account. Paid plans: vevox.com/pricing. See Claryoo vs Vevox.

Wooclap

Wooclap is an interactive platform built for active learning, used by educators, training teams and events. People join by entering a code. It offers more than 20 question types, including live quizzes, word clouds, matching, brainstorming and image-based questions, and works with PowerPoint, Google Slides, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.

Best for: teachers and L&D teams who want many question types in a training session or course.

Watch out for: the free Starter plan is limited to 5 questions a month, and LMS integrations are only on the custom plan.

Pricing: Free Starter plan. Paid plans: wooclap.com/en/pricing. See Claryoo vs Wooclap.

How to choose

  • On a video call: if you'd rather people stay in the call than open another page, pick a tool that works in the meeting chat, like Claryoo on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams. If your audience is used to joining with a code, any of the others works.
  • In a room: almost every tool here uses phones and a QR code or join code. Choose by what you need back: on-screen activities (AhaSlides, Mentimeter), anonymous questions (Vevox, Slido), or a private read on which slide lost people (Claryoo).
  • Large events with lots of questions: stay with Slido. An upvoted Q&A board you can moderate before questions go up is what it does best. Vevox, with anonymous Q&A by default, is another option.
  • Workshops and trainings of 10 to 100 people: think about what you need after the session. If it's decisions and follow-ups written up for you, Claryoo fits; if it's scores and quiz results, AhaSlides or Wooclap fit well. See Claryoo for facilitators, training, nonprofits and speakers.

FAQ

What is the best free Slido alternative?

It depends on group size and format. AhaSlides' free plan covers up to 50 participants and Poll Everywhere's up to 40. Claryoo's free plan gives you 2 session hours a month, and every account starts with a 14-day Pro trial with no card.

Claryoo does. It joins the Zoom, Google Meet or Teams call, and people answer polls by typing in the meeting chat. Most other tools here offer Zoom or Teams integrations, but participants still respond through the tool's own page or app.

Is there a Slido alternative for in-person sessions?

Yes, all of them work in a room with people answering on their phones. Claryoo also needs no call, no bot and no mic in person: people join by QR or a short code, and you see which slide lost the room.

Can I keep using Slido alongside another tool?

Yes. Many hosts keep Slido for big Q&A events and use another tool for smaller workshops and trainings. Claryoo and Slido can run on the same call without conflict.
