About this seminar template

A seminar only works if people did the reading and are willing to speak. This seminar discussion template recaps the reading, poses this week’s question and opens the floor. The discussion slide asks which idea from the reading challenged people most, one of the more reliable seminar discussion questions for starting real debate.

The first poll asks honestly how much of the reading each person got through. An anonymous poll then shows where the group stands on the week’s question: agree, partly, disagree or unsure. A random pick decides who opens the discussion, so it’s never the same person. It suits university tutors, book clubs and reading groups.

When to use it

  • Weekly university seminars or tutorials built on set reading
  • Reading discussion groups and book clubs
  • Debates where you want to see the split before people argue

How to use it

  1. Use this template. All 10 slides land in your Slides, free. Edit the text on any slide, change any question, or add your own slides from a PDF.
  2. Run it. On a Zoom, Google Meet or Teams call, people answer in the meeting chat. In a room, they scan a QR code and answer on their phones. No app for anyone.
  3. See the room. Results land live, only you see who’s gone quiet, and a summary is ready when it ends.

FAQ

Seminar questions.

Lead a seminar by checking the reading, posing one clear question and letting students do most of the talking. Showing where the group stands first gives people something concrete to respond to.
